Perfect World

i'm getting lost inside my mind.
i sit and conjure up my own happily ever after.
there's a big house full of screaming kids and
a man that loves me more then anything,
in my perfect world.
time are good and laughter is free.
there's no where else i'd rather be,
but my perfect world is just a dream.

the place where i breathe isn't everything i'd thought it would be.
i sleep along, i eat alone, i talk to the dog.
the one kid i have is grown
and it's just me, with nothing to do but kill time.
so every chance i get i close my eyes to escape to my perfect world.

in my perfect world, there's water fights on hot summer days,
and cuddling in front of a fire on a cold winter nights.
there's a dinner table full of my babies.
someone spilled the milk and another one yells dibs on the last roll.
there's no place else i'd rather be,
but my perfect world doesn't belong to me.

the real world is eight hours surrounded by cubicle walls,
coming home to an empty house,
heating up dinner in the microwave,
just me with nothing to do but kill time.
10 pm is bed, my favorite part of the day,
when i close my eyes and fade into my perfect world.

Suppression

i stay still.
if i move i'll ruin this moment.
two dogs peacefully snoring.
i try not to make any noise.
i find myself yearning to sneeze.

i fight for control over my body.
now my foot itches.
it's a common battle,
since the dawn of man,
we've tried to suppress ourselves.

i feel like laughing,
but i just smile.
it's been awhile since
i felt this torn.
my feet are falling asleep.

i'm tired too,
but i don't want to get up.
is it friday yet?
my moment of quiet content
is slipping away.
i want to hold on to it,
but i know it won't stay.

the snoring continues,
as i wonder how much longer
i can suppress the urge to use the bathroom!

The Storm

i'm writing by the light of lightning.
the rain is battering the window.
the wind is gusting quickly through the trees.
the loud booms of thunder startle me.
i watch with awe the power of mother nature.
i feel so small in comparison.
i hope the storm doesn't last long.

it's been trying to unleash since 5pm.
the rain drops were so fat and far apart
i could actually walk in between them.
the little pieces of ice began to come down,
breaking apart when they hit my arm.
i ran for cover to avoid the hail;
it came and went for 30 minutes.
i rushed the dog into the house against her will.

it's almost 3 hours later.
the real storm has arrived.
it thrashes while trees crash.
my dog whimpers and tries to hide.
the power is out.
the windows are closed.
i feel entombed inside my own home.
the storms come and go,
so many this year, more then i've ever known.
you hope and you pray,
this storm won't blow my home away.

Envy the Dog

the dog stares at me while i work
she's outside chilling and i'm inside working
she has the right ideal about today

it's beautiful outside and she wants to play
but i have to work on the computer
and she doesn't understand
doggy food doesn't come free

her nana has to pay the bills
oh, today is on of thosse days
where i envy my dog!!!

Rerun

you run around screaming mine
like a dog chewing on its favorite bone.
you could pee on everything you own.
it's not going to stop me from going home.

i've seen all i need to see.
you have issues that really bother me.
you treat yourself like a king
and the whole world is here to please you.
i'm not your servant, so see ya!

you started this freak show.
i got caught up in the carnival.
your life is a full circus tent on fire.
i'd rather be married to an elephant
then listen to your bullshit another minute.

i don't need time to reconsider.
you aren't my burden.
you don't have your name in your underwear anymore,
so be a big boy and grow a set.
i didn't sign on to be your mother!
you don't get it.

i'd rather be alone
then be expected to bow to you.
so, go back to the web
and lie about yourself again.

your looks get you bites to reel the women in,
but the bait and switch that you do
will end up just like this;
you lying, her saying good bye loser,
it's a story you've lived hundreds of times before.

here's a toast to your happy ending.
i tip my hat to your unending quest
to find a woman whose so broken and blind
she'd love you for the rest of her life.
i'm changing the channel.
i've already seen this rerun!

Whirlwind

throw away the trash, feed the dog
calm the thoughts racing through my head
put away the dishes, take my medicine
tell myself this is part of the plan
pay the bills, fold the laundry
suppress the heavy sighs and bored yawns
this is the glamorous life you left me

run the vacuum, sweep the floor
hope there's another chance outside my door
clip the coupons, go to the store
i thought there would be more
clean out the garage, walk the dog
your leaving me caught me off guard
the legacy of us fits into one trash bin

clean the toilets, change the sheets
i didn't know you had gotten cold feet
cancel the credit cards, forward the mail
the house echoes silence in your absence
take a shower, change my clothes
everything is moving in slow motion
the whirlwind sucked us in and destoyed us

burn the scrapbook, wipe away my tears
i've lingered too long on my fears
write down the pain, drink some more wine
i'm giving myself one last night to be contrite
glue my heart back together, put away my misery
i'm accepting your final exit and moving on
i'm checking getting over you off my to do list!

The Dog Again (Sophie the Puggle)

I'm talking to the dog again.
Her brown eyes don't comprehend the pain I'm in.
But her attention soothes me,
And for one second the silence doesn't deafen me.

I get a little good news,
but 3 calls later it's back to bad.
I can't get ahead.
All my frugality can't afford what Murphy's Law brings to me.

I'm yelling at the dog again.
Her head tilts left then right.
She knows it's nothing she did.
But she licks my tears away still,
And for one second I feel something other then my broken heart.

I think I'm moving forward,
But I discover I'm behind.
Nothing catches me up.
All my planning can't account for one man's change of heart.

I'm petting the dog again.
It's simple enough that she understands,
She is wanted and she is loved!
And for one second I have forgotten his name!

I Love...

i love a good song that speaks to my soul.
i love a cold dr. pepper on a hot day.
i love the smell of the air after a hard rain.
i love the feel of the heat of the dog when she's curled up on my lap.

i love a poem that captures a feeling of mine.
i love a movie that makes me laugh and cry.
i love drinking a cold glass of milk just before bed.
i love a sweet dream that lingers long after i've awoken.

i love a gloomy sky when it matches my mood.
i love the first snow flakes of winter's doom.
i love the softness of my daughter's hair.
i love laughing so hard i pee my pants.

i love the subtleness of your smile.
i love the way you drive me insane
i love the sound of your voice.
i love these days with you.
