stalled out in the fast lane
no where to go
no escape
i watch the crash happen
i see it all unfold
i can't stop it
the pain
the blood
the burning
capture every tear
store every smell
watch the aftermath
see everyone collapse
find the hope hiding behind the fear
lives forever altered
five minutes turns into an eternity
everyone disappears
dispersed to clear the road
until the next collision
wrap up the bloody clothes
put up a white cross on the side of the road
find a new love
wait for it to end
hold my breath
pray this one doesn't hurt
thank him for the lesson
leave your heart in the slow lane
look both ways
cross at your own risk
broken hearts stop traffic
stalled out in the fast lane
Hello. How are you today? Is it sunshine or rain? Is it happy or sad? Is it anger or joy? My toe nails are plum. My finger nails are golden sparkles. I am average from head to toe. Hello.

Supermoon
i confess my love to you with anxious breath.
i wait for your response, breathlessly, for you to talk.
then you break the silence with i'm falling for you too.
happiness replaces my fear and i feel like i've taken flight.
frenzied kisses and hugs embrace our newly declared love.
there's technicalities everywhere.
there's baggage to be lifted out of the way,
but i'm willing to do the heavy lifting to keep you.
now i know you love me too! you love me too!
i knew from the first phone call you were different.
you want to disappear into us like i do.
we both show each other our insecurities.
we are exchanging our deepest secrets.
we fit together so perfectly, it's a little scary!
i spend all my seconds with you on my mind.
my body aches to feel you inside.
love has never felt so alive!
i'd do anything for just one kiss.
i feel possessive.
i want you to be mine until the end of time!
we're attempting to create a new life together.
you love to be intimate with me.
and i revel in every touch!
my body is ready for you at the sound of your name.
this love cannot be tamed.
tonight we'll make love outside under the supermoon on your kid's trampoline.
you'll fill me with your seed.
the two of us, naked, covered in the sweat of our love's labors.
we will make a memory that will last forever!

Swimming
what about me swims in your head?
my weakness is your kisses.
i see you and my heart does a flip.
this world spins faster then i can deal with.
i see clarity when i'm away from you,
but when you're near i'm blinded by you.
this triangle has become bermuda,
when you enter me the world disappears.
only 10% of your time has been mine.
who swims in your head when i'm not around?
what holds you to her?
my thoughts are curious about you two.
you tell me she bores you.
you feel smothered and like it's all falling apart with her.
you don't want to hurt her,
but you don't hesitate to stomp on my heart.
there's no love that can bind you,
yet two women are slaves to you.
i know it swells up both of your heads.
this is the ultimate power of the worst kind.
whose the one that will be your downfall?
my weakness is your kisses.
i see you and my heart does a flip.
this world spins faster then i can deal with.
i see clarity when i'm away from you,

Indulgence
devotion can't capture how i feel about you
i elevate my heart to heaven
when you call out to me
this feeling spins me around
faster then the speed of light
i'd give up every sin to be your one indulgence
obsession is you dominating my every thought
i create a world just for us
when you say my name
these moments are just the prelude
our symphony will play across the universe
the fat lady will never sing on our love
passion for your every flaw
i know you inside and out
when you breathe i know your next thought
this bond is absolute
our connection runs down to a cellular level
i entwine my very essence with yours
possessions do not matter to us
objects are not what we need to be complete
when we come together we are in sync
the magic we make is a mystery to others
i disappear when you are near
and abracadabra, two become one forever
i elevate my heart to heaven
when you call out to me
this feeling spins me around
faster then the speed of light
i'd give up every sin to be your one indulgence
obsession is you dominating my every thought
i create a world just for us

The Gnat
out of the blue, you decide to clear the air.
you lay out before me all your errors.
the curtains are pulled back
and i see your reflection in my eyes.
you tell me, i'm the answer to your prayers.
you bring me poppies and chocolates.
i think it's time for my daddy to have a chat with you.
you show me my name tattoo'd over your heart.
you show me us in pictures where we are laughing
like a happy family,
but it doesn't change what you did.
your unfaithfulness is like a gnat,
it flies around us, and we are just waving it off,
but we can't kill it.
i ease back in the recliner.
i'm trying to find the right words,
but i'm overwhelmed with my disappointment in you.
you see the light leave my eyes.
i think we are both surprised.
i'm not angry.
i think we just ran out of love.
i'll help you pack.
you can tell everyone we ran out of steam.
there is no one to blame.
we can just quietly fade away!
you lay out before me all your errors.
the curtains are pulled back

Little Scraps of Paper
i document my feelings on little scraps of paper.
i have them tucked away in dark secret spaces,
wondering if any words can truly paint
an accurate picture of who i am.
the little scraps of paper are turning yellow.
the lead is fading and the ink smearing.
some of it is so light i can't read it anymore.
when the words disappear,
does part of me vanish with them?
i have written my life down.
sentences strung together haphazardly.
misspellings abound and i don't recall some of the emotions at all.
will anyone care that i felt so small?
i've built a papier-mache empire.
i surround myself with pens and post-it notes,
hoping to capture the elusiveness of my soul.
my pre-occupation with me prevents me
from forming meaningful attachements.
at least that's what a therapist told me long ago.
i spend hours speaking to the dead inside my head.
i'm trying to remember a forgotten friend.
i stand in the kitchen hoping to expose a fear,
but i end up eating chocolate
and writing on a napkin how i hope i choke.
i realize my little scraps of paper won't save me.
but i can't stop myself from adding to them.
when i die i want to be buried in a suit
made out of these little scraps of papers.
then i can review them with saint peter
as he decides if my immortal soul belongs in either heaven or hell.
