did you find that rabbit hole where you were hoping to find your soul?
i fell into an invisible man.
he missed what he never did understand.
he's fed, fat and happy, but i'm plotting the perfect moment for my revenge.
the cold air nuzzles my neck and chokes on my cigarette.
i'm riding his hot air to the clouds and sliding to hell on his icy stare.
there's loves embrace and fear's kisses all jumbled up inside my memories of him.
do you keep her next to your shiny new car like a trophy that says you're a star?
she thinks you're in love with her, but we both know that's not true.
loneliness stalks you with every lie you utter to her.
she's not going to buy your delay tactics forever.
she's the kind of woman that marries;
and your the kind of man that worries she wants to marry you.
i'm chasing down karma and pointing it to your door.
stack the deck anyway you want.
the truth has a way of coming out.
i can wait for your life to fall apart.
your hands were never there to hold mine when i needed it,
so mine won't be there for you when she leaves you.
did i set this up so i always lose everything?
maybe i'm hard wired to be misery's bitch, but i stopped lying.
you never broke character with me or her.
how long can you keep pretending to be the man she wants you to be?
no wonder you're always sleeping, all this acting must be exhausting!
i'd beat some sense into you if i thought you could feel.
i've had my breakdown; i wonder how long it'll be until yours comes around.
i dreamed about you lying in bed with me instead of her.
i don't know if it was a nightmare but it scared me.
you and i together won't ever be, because that would be pure misery!
Hello. How are you today? Is it sunshine or rain? Is it happy or sad? Is it anger or joy? My toe nails are plum. My finger nails are golden sparkles. I am average from head to toe. Hello.

Chills Down Their Spines
i've finally achieved the impossible, i've become invisible.
it seems only my dad and daughter can see me.
everyone else looks right through me.
my existence forgotten, my image lost, i am no one!
i'd pray to God if i thought it'd help.
i'd lose more weight if i thought it'd make a difference.
i can alter my external appearance a million ways,
but i'd still be imperfect.
i want to bend until i break.
i want to surrender and be killed by friendly fire.
i'd love to be lovable, but i'm not.
i'd like to be popular, but i won't.
you realize early on some things never change.
i'm in love with wanting to be in love.
the concept is a wonderful sweeping and grand gesture.
reality is a harsher and much closer friend.
the truth depends on who you talk to.
there's not a single formula to create the person in your dreams.
i think in milliseconds that i'm a terrible person.
these negative affirmations never end.
i'll have them dance on my grave before i'm even dead.
the show could go on forever.
if only i could reach deeply into my mind to find the moment where my happiness died,
i might be able to revive it.
my misconceptions have outgrown me now.
every one can see i'm broken somehow.
i'm ignored by all.
people don't want to see me, because it's painful.
the thought of me sends chills down their spines,
because we all know there's a little bit of me in them.

What I Need
i cry alone in the darkness of my home.
i feel invisible and forlorn.
i then hear a voice, soft and sweet,
it speaks to me, you are not invisible to me.
my child, i see you clearly.
every emotion you feel comes to me too.
do not think you are alone,
because my spirit is always with you.
i felt better that night.
i said a prayer of gratitude
for the love of God and his gentle reminder,of who i am.
my load is lightened.
i go about my life at peace,
until my heart gets broken again.
i sit in the darkness of my home.
i wonder if God has forgotten me.
why must i suffer this way?
then i hear the voice again,
soft but firm, i am reprimanded.
i have not forgotten you,
but you have forgotten me.
my child, when you are suffering
I hurt a thousand times more.
If you'd listen more often,
you'd understand, that this is what you need.
i am humbled and embarassed.
i say a prayer filld with my heartfelt repentance.
my troubles are lifted from me.
i am focused and at peace.
Thank you God for not giving up on me!
now i travel lightly through life.
i listen for his directions at every fork in the road.
i pray often every day for him to guide me.
when i get lost, his gentle voice corrects me.
He is a loving tolerant father,
admonishing his wayward child,
not with fury but with love.
i always find my way when i have faith God knows what i need.
i feel invisible and forlorn.

Invisible Death
helpless and fragile with broken lungs,
no one to console,
a guardian angel asleep at the wheel,
your life so brief, it's only a footnote.
i remember little things in blurry scenes,
it was so long ago, when you had to leave.
memories play to their own tune.
yours is out of sequence, faded, and worn.
i wonder sometimes if you'd be fearless,
you never were afraid when others were.
but we are here today and you sing with the angels.
is it too high a price to pay, to live with what could have been?
i don't think we'd still be friends.
maybe a cursory connection through a facebook trend,
but i'm haunted to this day.
you were never coming out to play again.
boucing on old mattresses in meemaw's backyard.
laughing like crazy when we fell down.
i was a kid too,
unable to process death.
is that why i remain so affected by it?
i never thought i was invincible.
one too many funerals i've went too before i was ten.
life folds, bends then breaks apart at the end.
i look at myself in the mirror
and ponder how much time is left in my hour glass.
i shouldn't miss what never came to be.
is it the crazy in me that wants to get lost,
switch back to a time when i could just be
and death was invisible to me?
i think i'd be a different human being,
if i hadn't had to bury my innocence so soon.
no one to console,
a guardian angel asleep at the wheel,
your life so brief, it's only a footnote.
i remember little things in blurry scenes,

Plain View
that's weird!
i searched frantically for you just yesterday.
i dug through my purse like a hopped up crack head
and i didn't see you.
i pulled out everything and you weren't there.
i just put something new in my purse
and there you were in plain view!
this is happening now all the time.
i'm tearing my house apart
looking for somethingi can't live without.
i get so bent out of shape about every little thing.
i work myself up into a panicked frenzy,
but the object i desire eludes me.
so i give up and i move on.
then two days later i see you in plain view,
but i don't need you anymore.
i'd laugh at myself if i wasn't crying already.
is someone playing games with me?
i worry about flipping out
and when i can't figure this out
i freak thinking insanity is coming to nest.
that my brain is turning into a charlie sheen mess.
God, help me, i'm going crazy!
do they go to another dimension?
maybe they come to life and move when i'm not home,
like in the movies.
it's really bothering me.
if it had been a snake it would have bitten me.
maybe i'm going blind
or developing selective sight.
but i can't find anything when i need it the most.
what's in plain view becomes concealed,
like it's wearing an invisibility cloak!

Zygote
wow, 2 off hand comments in 1 call leave me reeling and discombobulated.
i had hoped we were moving forward, but i see now we've been twirling around in circles on the dance floor of our friendship.
i'm not little and my uterus isn't good enough for your zygote!
ther's not much i can do.
i'll never be her.
and i realize now you aren't letting her go.
so i'm the back up, 2nd place,
not even a qualified replacement for you.
you're still looking to date.
i'm not even registering as a potential mate.
i give up.
she wins.
i'm shutting down my attachment to you.
i no longer want to please you.
i don't want to see you.
but i will.
why? because i'm in love with you.
and to have some of you is better then none of you.
i'm coming to a crossroads here,
and i don't know which way to turn.
do i stick with the status quo?
or rock the boat?
do i make a demand?
or attempt to manipulate you?
i don't know what i want or need anymore.
and there's not much i can do.
but hang around and see if in time you end up wanting me.

Jane Doe
I am average.
I am invisible.
I am the girl next door.
I am Jane Doe.
The girl you forget.
The girl you ignore.
The girl full of doubts.
I am Jane Doe.
I hide in the open.
My secrets swept under the rug.
My heart upon the shelf.
I am Jane Doe.
I sacrificed my innocence for a little love.
I held myself under water until I drowned.
I tied my hands behind my back, stabbed my
own heart out and gave it to you on a silver platter.
You ate it up and asked for another.
I am Jane Doe.
You see through me like a window.
I see you like a door,
I can't unlock you to get through to you.
I am Jane Doe.
I am plain.
I can't explain.
I am weird.
I am Jane Doe.
I'm lost in a sea of faces.
You look past me like I'm not here.
You can't recall my name.
I am Jane Doe.
I am confused by the basics.
I trip over my own tongue.
I don't have alot of common sense.
I am Jane Doe.
I have blond hair.
I have gray eyes.
I am freckled face and wide eyed.
I am Jane Doe.
I was your toy to pass the time.
Now someone more exotic has caught your eye.
You tell me to move along,
but I just stare at you.
Your patience is wearing thing,
but I don't care.
I know I was just a Jane Doe to you.
I am invisible.
I am the girl next door.
I am Jane Doe.
